Our Work

Trauma is the leading cause of death between the ages of 1 and 14 years nationwide, and results in temporary or permanent disability for millions of infants and children annually.

The Pediatric Trauma team at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital is committed to combating traumatic injuries through advanced medical care, innovative education programs, leadership in advocacy and research, injury prevention and safety programs. Our Level I Pediatric Trauma Center is a leader in trauma evaluation, stabilization, treatment, and care of children who have experienced a traumatic injury. The Level I designation means we have been certified by the American College of Surgeons as providing the highest level of emergency and surgical care to pediatric patients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Mott is one of only a handful of Level I Pediatric Trauma Centers nationwide.

We have the experience that comes from providing trauma care for more children than most other hospitals. Our emergency department sees over 10,000 pediatric patients with traumatic injuries each year. We also have the expertise that can only be developed through commitment to research that helps explain the factors at play in traumatic injuries in children, and the best methods for education and prevention.
